The Renew Europe Group calls on the Guinean authorities to restore the normal functioning of Guinea's democratic institutions.

Renew Europe Group President, Dacian Cioloș said:

“The Renew Europe group is extremely worried by the tensions surrounding the presidential elections in the Republic of Guinea. In the following hours and days, it is very important for the current authorities to ensure the transparency of vote counting. Electoral results should be free of fraud and manipulation. Given the tensions, we equally call on the authorities of the Republic of Guinea to guarantee the safety of the opposing candidate, Cellou Dalein Diallo and his supporters.”

MEP Hilde Vautmans Renew Europe Group’s coordinator in the Foreign Affairs Committee, added:

“Democracy must stand in Guinea. We strongly condemn the illegal home arrest of Presidential candidate Cellou Dalein Diallo and call on President Condé to reverse this unjustified and illegal action without further ado. Individual rights and freedoms must be restored and respected.”
