French solar manufacturer HoloSolis has raised more than €220 million ($255 million) to launch construction on what is set to become one of Europe’s largest
solar panel production sites.
The investment comes at a pivotal moment for Europe’s energy landscape. Solar power is expected to play a central role in reducing the continent’s reliance on Russian energy supplies and accelerating the shift toward cleaner power sources. Yet recent data from July showed the European Union was on track for its first annual decline in solar capacity growth in more than ten years—raising concerns about the pace of the transition.
HoloSolis’ facility, located in Sarreguemines-Hambach, is slated to reach full operational capacity by 2030. Once online, it aims to produce enough solar modules to power one million homes.
The project is expected to create 2,000 direct jobs and deliver an annual production capacity of up to 5 gigawatts.
