The Tilburg synagogue in the Netherlands has experienced heightened threats following the recent actions of the Hamas terrorist group in Israel and Israel's declaration of war in response.

Although the synagogue has faced threats in the past, the current situation has seen an increase, according to Marc Daniel Ben Avi, the synagogue's chairman, who spoke to Omroep Brabant.

"There are numerous indications that there are individuals who intend to target synagogues," Marc Daniel expressed concern. The Tilburg synagogue serves members not only in the southern Netherlands but also in Belgium and Germany and holds significance for Liberal Jews in the region.

While Marc Daniel does not anticipate organized attacks on the synagogue, he remains worried about the potential for lone terrorists. "We are confronted with anti-Semitism and imitative behavior," he stated.

The police have acknowledged ongoing threats against the Jewish community. A police spokesperson noted that there have been no new reports of threats since the Hamas attacks. Still, the synagogue has received extra camera surveillance in recent weeks. The National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security has written to mayors, requesting additional security measures around synagogues due to concerns about the safety of Jewish people attending services.

Despite the threats, activities at the Tilburg synagogue will continue as usual. Marc Daniel stated, "We will not allow ourselves to be intimidated by anyone. However, we no longer publish our schedule publicly and must conduct our activities discreetly for safety reasons." The synagogue must exercise caution and remain vigilant, and they are limiting access to the premises.

Marc Daniel, who has lived in the Netherlands for years, expressed deep concern for his brother, who still resides in Israel. His brother lives near the Gaza Strip and in one of the villages invaded by Hamas. On Saturday, his brother informed him of gunfire around his home and his move to a safe room. Since Saturday evening, there has been no contact with his brother, leaving Marc Daniel and his family in a state of powerlessness and concern.
