The European Sleeper night train route to Berlin will be expanded to include stops in Dresden, eastern Germany, and Prague, Czech Republic, starting March 25th next year. The Dutch-Belgian

railway company anticipates that approximately 40% of passengers traveling from Brussels and Amsterdam will continue their journey to Dresden or Prague.

Previously, this night train service, operating three times a week from Belgium and the Netherlands since the end of May, terminated in Berlin. With the spring expansion, the route will connect four European capitals, including the addition of Prague. Originally, the company had intended to run trains to the Czech Republic from the outset but was impeded by ongoing railway works.

"We expect that around 40% of passengers will travel to and from Dresden or Prague, with the remaining 60% to and from Berlin," stated the company in a press release issued on Tuesday. The journey from Brussels to Prague will take approximately 15.5 hours.

"We have now transported over 20,000 passengers, and we are very proud of that accomplishment," said European Sleeper co-founder Chris Engelsman. "During the summer, the trains were well utilized, with some services reaching full capacity."

Additionally, the company intends to introduce a second night train route between Amsterdam, Brussels, and Barcelona by 2025. Photo Tiia Monto, Wikimedia commons.
