The farmer citizen movement BBB has unveiled its election manifesto, outlining a series of policy proposals that emphasize environmental conservation, practical education,

and changes in taxation and governance.

Leader Caroline van der Plas, in a recent speech, criticized what she referred to as a centralized technocratic government, citing a growing sense of mistrust and division within society, and a lack of attention to rural areas and regions.

The BBB's manifesto, bearing the slogan "every day BBBetter," proposes several key changes in government structure and policy:

Ministerial Consolidation: The BBB advocates for the consolidation of ministries related to agriculture, nature, fisheries, and food quality into one portfolio. This move is aimed at streamlining government functions and reducing bureaucracy.

Neighbourly Assistance: The party wishes to model government on the concept of "noaberschap," a countryside code promoting neighborly assistance and cooperation, as opposed to a traditional bureaucratic approach.

Asylum Seeker Limits: The BBB proposes limiting the number of asylum seekers granted residence status to 15,000 per year, including family members of settled refugees. They also suggest a fair distribution of these individuals across the country, without granting them priority for housing.

Afforestation: The party aims to increase tree planting to ensure that every household can see at least three trees from their homes. This initiative aligns with their commitment to environmental sustainability.

Holiday Home Conversion: Where feasible, holiday homes would be converted into official residences. This move seeks to address housing shortages and utilize available housing resources effectively.

Tax-Free Basic Allowance: Instead of a conventional benefits system, the BBB proposes introducing a tax-free basic allowance of €30,000 for all citizens. This change aims to simplify taxation and provide financial relief to individuals.

VAT Reduction: The party advocates for lowering the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate to zero on fruit and vegetables, encouraging healthier consumption habits.

Support for Regional Military: The manifesto includes provisions for increased funding for regional military initiatives, strengthening security at the regional level.

New Service Law: The BBB proposes the introduction of a new service law, although specific details are yet to be elaborated upon.

Caroline van der Plas is the party leader and occupies the top spot on the candidate list. Mona Keijzer, a former CDA politician and junior minister, is in the second position and would become the prime minister if the party were to achieve a significant surge in the polls. The BBB is fielding 48 candidates across the country and currently holds a position in the polls ranging from fourth place with 11 to 17 seats.

The manifesto will undergo further discussion and refinement, with a definitive version expected to be published following the annual general meeting scheduled for September 23. Van der Plas has expressed willingness to participate in a coalition government, highlighting the party's diverse policy platform encompassing both left and right-wing stances.
