More than half of the 13.3 million eligible voters in the Netherlands, constituting 54 percent, fall within the age bracket of 50 years and older, according to provisional figures released by

Statistics Netherlands. Analyzing the data from October 1 this year, it was revealed that municipalities such as Bergen and Laren in Noord-Holland boast the highest concentration of eligible voters over 50, hovering close to 70 percent.

In regions like Vaals, Mook en Middelaar, and Gulpen-Wittem in Limburg, there is also a considerable proportion of older voters, with figures exceeding 66 percent. In contrast, the municipality of Utrecht registers the lowest proportion of voters aged 50 or above at 35 percent, closely followed by Urk at just over 37 percent.

Cities with a significant student population exhibit a notably younger electorate. Approximately a quarter of the total eligible voters in these areas are under 35 years old. The municipalities of Groningen and Utrecht top the list in terms of voters under 35, both recording 41 percent, followed closely by Leiden, Wageningen, and Delft, all tallying over 38 percent.

Interestingly, Tubbergen stands out with nearly 99 percent of its adult population being eligible to vote in the upcoming election. Conversely, municipalities like Vaals (67 percent), Diemen, and Amsterdam (both 76 percent) exhibit lower percentages of eligible voters. CBS attributes this disparity to the comparatively lower presence of individuals with foreign nationalities in the Northern and Eastern Netherlands municipalities.

However, CBS notes that these figures may have slightly changed since early October. Around 22,000 young individuals became eligible to vote upon reaching the age of 18 during this period, while an estimated 24,000 people passed away.

It's important to note that these changes haven't been factored into the study by the statistics office. Moreover, individuals with Dutch nationality residing in the Caribbean Netherlands, Dutch citizens living abroad, and those not registered in the population database, such as diplomats, are not included in these statistics.
