Belgium, holding the EU Council presidency, has chosen to join the European mission in the Red Sea. In a decision reached on Friday, the country will deploy the military ship Louise-Marie to

the region, focusing on protecting container ships rather than engaging with Houthi rebels, according to VRT NWS. The move comes after internal divisions within the government, with Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib asserting that participation aligns with Belgium's European responsibilities.

Left-wing parties sought increased efforts to safeguard Palestinians, including supporting South Africa's case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), probing potential Israeli actions in Gaza. The government compromise involves urging Israel and Hamas to initiate a new ceasefire to facilitate aid delivery to Gaza.

Belgium will also support the ICJ's findings and monitor their implementation. A press conference on this decision is scheduled for 14:00 local time. Photo by Dirgela, Wikimedia commons.
