France plans to request a court order to suspend Shein’s website in the country for three months, according to a source within the finance ministry. The move follows the government’s
discovery that the platform had been offering prohibited items — including weapons and childlike sex dolls — for sale.
The action comes amid heightened scrutiny surrounding the ultra-fast-fashion retailer, whose first permanent store in Paris recently opened to considerable attention and controversy.
On Nov. 5, French authorities initiated procedures to block Shein’s operations in France after identifying the illicit products on its platform. Shein subsequently removed all offending items, prompting the government to pause the suspension process.
