The Dutch auto industry experienced a notable increase in new car sales during June. According to industry associations RAI Vereniging, BOVAG, and data specialist RDC, a total of 37,340 new

passenger cars were registered last month, reflecting a growth of over 24 percent compared to June 2022. However, these figures also indicate a leveling off of the growth trajectory observed in previous months.

In May, for instance, sales demonstrated a year-on-year increase of 42 percent. The recent slowdown in growth suggests a potential resolution to the supply and inventory challenges that have plagued the auto industry. Car manufacturers confronted significant shortages of computer chips and other critical components throughout last year. The robust growth witnessed in recent months can be attributed to the fulfillment of pending orders from 2022.

When examining specific brands, Volkswagen emerged as the leading seller of cars in the Netherlands in June, closely followed by Kia and Tesla. Notably, the Tesla Model Y stood out as the most popular model last month.

Overall, these developments hint at a more stable and optimistic outlook for the auto industry. While the growth rate has tempered, the resolution of supply chain disruptions offers hope for a smoother path ahead. The industry will continue to monitor the situation closely as it navigates the ongoing challenges and strives for sustained recovery. Photo by Benespit, Wikimedia commons.
