The Portuguese Government, in collaboration with social partners, is in discussions to propose an increase in the minimum wage to €820 per month in 2024. This proposed raise exceeds the

previously agreed-upon amount of €810, as outlined in the income improvement agreement signed last year, as reported by Jornal de Negócios.

Prime Minister António Costa had previously indicated in an interview that the minimum wage for the upcoming year might surpass €810. The upward adjustment of this increase, which had received support from João Vieira Lopes, President of the Confederation of Commerce and Services (CCP), is expected to be finalized during ongoing social consultations in the days ahead, as mentioned by the newspaper.

Currently, the minimum guaranteed wage in Portugal stands at €760 gross. Therefore, if the proposed increase to €820 is implemented, it represents a nominal rise of 7.9%. Photo by Lionel Allorge, Wikimedia commons.
