As of October 2023, an additional 8,700 individuals in Norway found themselves registered as unemployed and seeking assistance from the state welfare agency NAV. This uptick nudged the

unemployment rate to 2.9 percent, marking a modest increase. The director of NAV, Hans Christian Holte, noted that the majority of those currently unemployed belong to the construction sector. This trend reflects the impact of a sluggish real estate market, leading to the suspension of various construction projects in both residential and commercial domains. The city of Oslo witnessed an increase in joblessness across all its districts, while unemployment rates also climbed in all Norwegian counties except Nordland.

Holte emphasized that the rise in job seekers also stems from the influx of Ukrainians seeking refuge in Norway amid the ongoing conflict in their home country. He highlighted, "More and more Ukrainians are registering themselves with NAV in their search for work," as mentioned in a press release on Friday. Despite the slight rise in unemployment, the overall rate remains relatively low, providing a nuanced perspective on the current employment landscape in Norway.
