In a significant moment of Danish history, Queen Margrethe of Denmark is set to abdicate this afternoon, marking the beginning of her son's reign as King Frederik X. The historic event will

unfold during a special Council of State meeting at Christiansborg Palace, where the Queen will sign away her throne.

At the moment of accession, Frederik X's elder son, Christian, will become the Crown Prince of Denmark. Outside the council chamber, Frederik's wife will await the completion of the abdication, instantly becoming Queen Mary of Denmark.

Following the abdication, the new King will be officially proclaimed to the Danish people from the balcony of Christiansborg Palace by the country's Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen.

The detailed timetable for this historic transition is as follows:

1:35 pm: Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark departs Amalienborg Palace by carriage for a procession through Copenhagen to Christiansborg Palace.

1:37 pm: Their Royal Highnesses The Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark leave Amalienborg Palace by car for Christiansborg Palace.

2:00 pm: The Council of State convenes at Christiansborg Palace. Queen Margrethe signs the Declaration of Abdication, and Frederik X ascends to the throne.

2:15 pm: Queen Margrethe of Denmark leaves Christiansborg Palace.

2:30 pm: His Majesty King Frederik X and Her Majesty Queen Mary of Denmark greet guests at a reception, joined by their son, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Christian of Denmark.

3:00 pm: King Frederik X is proclaimed as the monarch from the balcony of Christiansborg Palace by Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen.
